A Kentucky animal shelter is celebrating an expansion. The Jessamine County Animal Shelter just recently opened its new facility on Fairground Way in Nicholasville.
The new shelter allows more room for the animals housed there. Officials there hope the extra space will cut down on illnesses spread among the animals.
In addition to the extra space, the shelter now has state of the art equipment. The shelter is one of a handful in the United States that has an Emergency Response Unit for animals. The equipment allows workers to respond in cases of mass disasters, such as flooding or hurricanes.
