JAMESTOWN, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - Kentucky's Governor says legislation signifying this state as the 'Houseboat Capital of the World' will mean much for the state's tourism and economic development.
Governor Steve Beshear was at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park on Wednesday afternoon in signing the Senate Concurrent Resolution 44. That states that Kentucky is the 'Houseboat Capital of the World.'
Beshear says the boating business brings nearly $900,000,000 to Kentucky and he's seen its effect all over the world.
"I was in Dubai about a year and a half ago on an economic development trip. I had breakfast on a houseboat at the marina in Dubai half way around the world that was made here in Kentucky. So that goes to show the far reach that the export business in the houseboat business has gone," Governor Beshear says.
Beshear says marketing Kentucky as the 'Houseboat Capital of the World,' will mark the state as a stronger tourist destination.
