Knox County officials reverse decision to close railroad crossing where man died
KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - It was supposed to be closed at the end of January, but a decision to shutdown a southern Kentucky railroad crossing has been reversed.
Kara Ball's cousin, Jeffery Campbell, died when a train hit his truck at the Knox County crossing in 2006.
Since then, Ball has fought tirelessly to get crossing gates installed.
County leaders voted in December to to close the road. They reversed the decision after receiving letters and a petition against closing it.
"I understand how those 141 people feel, but at the same time, I would like for them to walk in my shoes and see how it feels for us not to have a family member anymore," says Ball.
Officials say something will still be done to make the crossing safer. The plan is to put up a gate at the crossing in about a year.
