Ky. Derby ball changing format, venue

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A charity ball held the night before the Kentucky Derby is moving to a larger venue and becoming less formal.

The Julep Ball announced Tuesday that it is moving from a Louisville hotel to the much larger KFC Yum! Center arena.

The ball is a benefit for the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville. It has raised more than $2 million since 2004.

The ball has for years been a black-tie affair, but organizers say they are relaxing the dress code to cocktail attire so attendees can go to the ball straight from spending the day at Churchill Downs racetrack for the Kentucky Oaks.

Organizers say tickets range from $150 to $500 per person and the event is about halfway sold out.
