BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A southern Kentucky county is warning residents to have their trash picked up weekly or else.

Bowling Green Environmental Coordinator Stan Reagan says anyone not subscribed to a trash collection service will get notices in the first quarter of 2013 warning that they need to get the service or face citations that could be sent to the code enforcement board.

Reagan told The Daily News that 87 percent of Warren County households have trash collection - meaning 13 percent are finding different ways to dispose of garbage.

All homes and businesses in Warren County have been required since 2000 to subscribe to a weekly garbage pickup.

Reagan said the alternatives to regular pickup, such as roadside dumping and burning trash, can be both hazardous to the environment and illegal.
