Ky. deputy in serious condition after crash

ARGILLITE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police say a Greenup County Sheriff's Deputy remained in serious condition after being struck by a car.

The Independent (http://bit.ly/RcuERQ ) reported that a car struck 49-year-old Matthew Smith was working a separate collision Thursday evening when a car headed south on Ky. 207 struck him and a tow truck driver at about 8 p.m. EDT.

Troopers say Smith and 43-yearold Lloyd Caudill were positioned between the tow truck and Smith's cruiser when they were struck. Caudill was treated and released at the scene.

The female driver of the 2005 Ford Focus that hit the men was not injured and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Smith was transported to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
