FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday is warning districts to expect low scores in reading and math when the results of new state tests are revealed.
In a blog post Tuesday in a newsletter for teachers, Holliday said scores will be lower in reading and math because the tests are based on benchmarks from new guidelines the state has adopted for English and mathematics.
Holliday encourages the teachers not to be discouraged by the low scores, but to use them as a basis for improvement.
He said the science and social studies results should be in line with past scores because that content has remained the same since 2007.
Holliday said results of the new K-PREP tests will be released next month. Students took the tests in the spring.
