Ky. man charged with trying to hire a killer

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A southwestern Kentucky man has been charged with trying to hire a killer to murder another man.

A Christian County grand jury has indicted 28-year-old Steven Mayton of Crofton this week. Police arrested Mayton on Sept. 16.

Police say allegedly made threats against Richard Anderson for several weeks. According to the arrest warrant, one threat was given via telephone and recorded.

The Kentucky New Era reports that (http://bit.ly/S338VI) in another phone conversation, Mayton allegedly outlined his plans to torture and kill Anderson.

On Aug. 19, Mayton allegedly offered to pay a woman $1,000 to bring Anderson to a location where Mayton could kill him. Mayton is being held in Christian County Jail on $100,000 bond. Jail records did not list an attorney for Mayton.
