Ky. police officer killed in the line of duty

HODGENVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A Kentucky officer has died in the line of duty after he was killed in a crash during a chase.

It happened Sunday morning as the officer was chasing the suspect on Kentucky 210 in LaRue County.

That's where state police say Officer Mark Allen Taulbee lost control of his cruiser, hit an embankment and was thrown from his car.

Taulbee was taken to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died.

The suspect, Jason Avis, 29, later turned himself in.

Police say he's charged with wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading, but more charges could be added.

Officer Taulbee had been with the Hodgenville police force for just over a year.

The 43-year-old leaves behind a wife and two children.
