Lake house burns to the ground in Scott County

Updated: Sun 11:08 PM, Feb 17, 2013

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A Scott County lake house is nothing but a pile of ashes after a fire flared up Sunday evening.

Fire fighters say no one was home on Deer Lake road at the time- but a neighbor saw the fire and called it in.

Because of the remote location, fire fighters had a hard time getting to the house and an even harder time getting water.. instead using several trucks to bring water up from nearby Deer Lake.

They were, however, able to save the owner's boat inside the garage.

"From what I saw, it was a pretty good sized house. It's a nice housing area. Like I said, everything is lost except for that boat, and they're still continuing to battle the elements and the ability to get water which we're having to shuttle in," said Batt. Chief Craig Wink.

The Scott County fire department said a fire investigator will likely comb through the scene on Monday to determine what started the fire.
