Lane Goodwin's family honored by House of Representatives

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - George, Angie, and Landon Goodwin were honored on the floor of the Kentucky House of Representatives this morning for their efforts to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

"They are taking a bad situation and trying to make a much better situation out of it," said Representative David Watkins.

13-year-old Lane Goodwin made waves across social media last year with his 'Thumbs Up' campaign. Nearly 400,000 people liked the Facebook page and thousands sent in pictures giving him a thumbs-up as he battled cancer. Even after Lane passed away in October, his family kept fighting, creating an organization to raise awareness for other kids with cancer. Today, the Kentucky House of Representatives honored his family.

"With his huge following from Facebook, the chances of them having a very successful foundation is extremely good," said Representative Watkins.

According to the group's Facebook page, the Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation was officially recognized as a charitable organization just last month.
