Laurel Co. teen facing federal charges for making bombs

LONDON, KY. - (WKYT) A Laurel County teenager is in jail on federal charges for making bombs. 18-year-old Andrew King told investigators that he didn't plan on using any of the explosives to hurt anyone but he did give his neighbors quite a scare.

Neighbors told WKYT they started hearing explosions at odd times, in the middle of the night and early in the morning. According to a federal affidavit, one neighbor called police when it sounded like an airplane had crashed.

Federal investigators searched King's home on Green Meadow Drive and his car. During the search of his car, investigators say King walked out and admitted to making things to blow up and even showed them cell phone pictures and video. He even told them he knew how to use a cell phone to remote initiate an IED.

King is charged with possession of a firearm which is not registered to him in the national firearms registration and transfer record.
