LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A loud boom and a crash startled those who live on Hawk Creek Road Monday night and when Wes Williams ran outside he saw a truck that had just a hit a tree. Inside the truck where several badly injured people, including two small kids.
“One little blonde haired boy..he had a bad cut (on his head) up here, it was bleeding, a little girl was crying,” said Williams.
But before he knew it….a man and a woman grabbed the kids and took off.
Police say the man who fled is 30 year old Elmer E. Oakley. Williams says when he approached the truck it smelled of alcohol. Police also say there found lots of evidence of alcohol involvement.
“There were beer cans and whiskey bottles found all over the vehicle,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel Co. Sheriff’s Office.
When he’s found, police say Oakley will face his 3rd offense of DUI in 5 years. All the while driving a truck with 8 and 9 year old kids…and several adults.
“I have kids of my own, I would never risk putting their safety at risk, just over a few drinks,” said Williams.
Police say when he’s caught Oakley will face DUI, and felony charges of wanton endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
