Lawmakers to examine former CIA director's affair

WASHINGTON (AP) - The affair between former CIA director David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell will be the subject of meetings this week involving congressional intelligence committee leaders and top officials from the FBI and the CIA.

And there's still a chance that Petraeus will have to testify at a later date about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in September that left four Americans dead. He'd been scheduled to testify about that attack this week, before giving up his CIA job as his affair became known.

A friend says Petraeus is "devastated" over the harm he's caused to his family, while losing "one of the best jobs he ever had."

Steven Boylan, a former Petraeus spokesman who talked to him over the weekend, also told ABC this morning that the former CIA director's wife, Holly is "not exactly pleased right now" after her husband admitted having an extra-marital affair. Boylan says Petraeus ended the affair four months ago.

House leader heard of Petraeus affair Oct. 27

The spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says Cantor first heard about CIA Director David Petraeus' extramarital affair on Oct. 27 from an FBI source he didn't know.

Communications director Rory Cooper told The Associated Press on Monday that the call was arranged by Rep. Dave Reichert, a Washington Republican. Reichert had initially received a tip from an FBI source who was a colleague of the FBI employee who called Cantor.

The following Wednesday, Oct. 31, after the government reopened following Superstorm Sandy, Cantor's chief of staff called the FBI chief of staff to inform him of the call. The FBI official called back the next day, saying that he couldn't confirm or deny an investigation.
