Legislators observed Coal Truck Driver Appreciation Day

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 has been designated as the first "Coal Truck Driver Appreciation Day."

A bill creating that day in Kentucky on the fourth Monday in August was signed into law by Gov. Steve Beshear back in June. It follows Coal Miner Appreciation Week and legislators said there were many reasons to do this.

“Coal truck drivers are a very important part of the coal industry, because not only do we have to get that coal out of the ground or out of the mines as it may be, but we have to get it out of the mines to where we can sell it,” said Rep. Leslie Combs, (D) 94th District.

Rep. John Short of Hindman sponsored the bill.
