Legislature gives final OK to university projects

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The state Legislature has given final approval for a $110 million renovation of the University of Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium.

The House voted 95-0 on Wednesday for final passage of the measure that allows six of the state's public universities to spend $363 million on construction projects.

The Senate voted overwhelmingly earlier Wednesday to approve the measure. Gov. Steve Beshear is expected to sign the measure into law on Thursday. It was the first bill passed in the current legislative session.

The top selling points for the proposal are that the projects will be paid for by the universities without any General Fund money and that they will create more than 5,000 construction jobs.
