GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Georgetown police are investigating a report of a student threatening to bring a weapon to Scott County Middle School.

A letter went home to parents Thursday informing them of the situation. The letter says students came forward to school staff to alert them about another student who had talked about bringing a weapon to school.

The school system says it notified police immediately who are now investigating.

"What we want to do first and foremost is praise the kids. Anytime they hear anything that they feel may be threatening, that they feel comfortable speaking to an adult and letting those adults decide if it's something we need to investigate," said Chip Southworth, Director of Secondary Schools.
