LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - The Salvation Army is making a plea for help.
They say more than 1200 children are still in need of gifts just days until the Angel Tree program ends.
The table in front of the tree at the Fayette Mall is full of tickets. Each one represents a child and their Christmas wishes.
Salvation Army leaders say this is the most children still unaccounted for at this time of the year in the program's 30 year history.
The Salvation Army works with other organizations to make sure there's no overlap in the donations, so the need for each of these children is urgent.
"To the best of our knowledge these children are only on The Salvation Army's Angel Tree list. This is their one and only opportunity to have something for Christmas," said Major Debra Ashcraft with The Salvation Army.
They've extended their hours for this final push. They'll be set up at the mall until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Salvation Army has also extended their date to return purchased toys. They can be dropped off at the mall location while they're open or they can can be dropped off on Monday until 8 p.m. at their Christmas center at 1030 South Broadway.
