Lexington Mayor Jim Gray announces re-election bid

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - First term Lexington Mayor Jim Gray told supporters Tuesday night that he will seek another term in 2014.

“Many people have asked me, 'so Jim what are you gonna do in a couple of years'” said Mayor Gray. “Well, actually, I’m here to tell you I love getting things done, tackling tough problems, and I want to stay on the job, so I’m running for re-election in 2014.”

Since taking office in January 2011, Mayor Gray has worked to address budget deficits totaling $35 million.

Gray has also lead in bringing new jobs to Lexington, such as the recent 250 job announcement by Boston-based law firm Bingham McCutchen to locate its global operations center in Lexington.

Gray defeated sitting mayor Jim Newberry in the last election, making it only the second time in the city's history that an incumbent had been defeated. Gray won with 53 percent of the vote compared to 47 percent for Newberry.

“A whole lot has changed in two years, but I always believed in one thing: when people feel better about their city, they will feel better about themselves. And we are doing just that. We are onto something,” said Mayor Gray.
