LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Lexington Police have new charges pending against a man they say posed as a football booster in several different counties.

Police have been tracking his scam for several months. Officer say Carl Elovitz scammed people across the state out of more than $1,000.

"He's selling ads on posters in exchange for donations to althetics departments," Det. Mike Helsby of the Lexington Police Department said.

Lexington Police arrested the 60-year-old in January after warrants were filed in Fayette, Woodford, Jessamine and Anderson counties in connection to the scam. Officers say he promised ad space on athletic schedule posters and had folks make checks out to him.

Officers say most of the checks were cashed at gas stations in Lexington. Investigators now say Elovitz also hit in Bowling Green where new victims are stepping forward.

"It's our fear that other victims may be out there, waiting for merchandise or ads to appear not knowing---they will realize they've been victimized," Helsby said.

As police wait for more victims to come forward, they say there's one easy thing anyone can do to avoid being victimized.

"If you feel like you're being scammed or don't feel right about an individual, it's ok to refuse a donation and verify their story."

Helsby says the scam started in December of 2012 and ended in January of 2013.
