LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- The ffist day of school often comes with anticipation for both teachers and students. But this year, the halls in Lexington's Veteran's Park will be a little less bright for many.

"One thing about Mrs. Callahan is we love her warm smile," explained fellow teacher Kristen Dixon, who has a classroom right down the hall.

Jana Callahan, who's taught there 10 years, suffered a brain anuerism three weeks ago. Still hospitalized, her Veterans Park family has come together to support her two children who are enrolled there.

"We are taking her kids under our wing," Dixon said. "We're making sure they have a nice transition to the beginning of the school year. We've been visiting her in the hospital."

In addition to hospital visits, the school made a large banner, allowing students and staff to wish the beloved lower primary school teacher well.

"I think she'll love the banner; it's very artsy and she'd always do a lot of things like painting in her classroom and I think she'd really love to see this and be inspired that al;l the students are thinking of her," Dixon explained.

Not only are students thinking of her, so are folks world wide. Her husband, Mark, has been keeping everyone updated on Facebook on a 'Prayers for Jana page.' Now, her co-workers just hope she'll be back with them soon.

"We're looking forward to that; to see her greet her kids," Dixon said.

To help pay for medical expenses, an event has been organized at The Cellar Restaurant on Lansdowne at The Signature Club for Monday August 20th. That night, twenty percent of all sales will go towards the Callahan family. Friends also say a fund has been set up at PNC Bank locations to help cover mounting costs. Donations can be made to the Jana Callahan Family Trust.
