Lexington shoppers cashing in on post-holiday sales

Updated: Wed 6:58 PM, Dec 26, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Stores in Fayette Mall are offering up sales, but the day after Christmas, there wasn't as much hustle and bustle as some stores would like.

According to the big retailers and the MasterCard advisors spending report, this Christmas has been a disappointment for retailers who slashed prices to lure people into stores. Now, they are hoping that the post-holiday sales will lure folks in to spend more than gift cards.

Retailers are blaming the slump on bad weather and rising concern over the economy, but WKYT crews caught up with plenty of local shoppers who are happily cashing in on big deals in Lexington today.

'I'm loving it! I saved $50 at bath and body works, saved about $30 at Aeropostale and a lot at Victoria's Secret. Not as many people as usual," explained Kim Blanke, who'd driven in from Berea to shop.

Her shopping companion, Kim Smith continued "It's a good day to shop and enjoy a day out!"

Retailers still have time to make up lost ground. The final week of December accounts for about 15 percent of the month's sales.
