LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington is getting ready for a possible blast of winter weather by pre-treating major streets and roads with salt brine.

Crews were already out Thursday morning ahead of a winter weather advisory for freezing rain and sleet, which is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.

Crews from the Division of Streets and Roads are working their winter operation schedule, which means 12-hour shifts around-the-clock while the advisory is in effect.

“We’re expecting freezing rain about dark tonight,” said Streets and Roads Director Sam Williams. “But the good thing is that temperatures Friday are expected to be above freezing at daylight so this won’t last long.”

Citizens can call the Traffic Hotline through the city’s Traffic Management Center at 258-3611 to hear traffic updates or check local road conditions.
