Lexington drivers navigate early morning snow

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - Overnight snow had people slowing down across Kentucky. In Lexington police responded to a few fender benders and drivers who lost control, but they say the number of accidents they responded to was a lot less than expected considering the amount of snow we received.

The snow that came down overnight was thick and heavy, but road crews had the main roads clear within a few hours.

"The snow is slushy. If it gets any colder it could be bad," said Owen Stanley who drives a snow plow.

For a few drivers things did get bad. Lexington police worked a number of accidents, but they say that number was relatively low, 17 wrecks through the morning and afternoon. Being a weekend helped, reducing the number of drivers on the road.

Of course, with it being a weekend, some people didn't mind the snow.

"We were pretty excited, we went outside," said Louie Kissinger.

Kissinger was part of a group of a couple dozen kids and parents who met up at the solid white hill behind Shriner's Hospital on Richmond Road. With other snowfalls this year being either too dry or not heavy enough, they say this snow was just right.
