Police say Lexington man shot his grandson

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police say Eddie Sizemore, 62, shot his grandson once in the stomach during an argument Sunday night.

Family members say Bill Morris, the grandson, is 19 or 20 and is at UK Hospital in serious condition.

Lauren Sizemore, Morris’s aunt, says Morris moved into his grandfather's home on King Arthur Drive about three weeks ago.

She says he has mental health issues and has been institutionalized several times.

We're told the two men started arguing about putting up groceries Sunday morning.

She says later that evening the grandfather grabbed a handgun when he heard Morris arguing with other family members.

She says when Sizemore asked Morris to leave the house the verbal argument turned physical.

She says the gun went off while the men were fighting.

Police say during those tense moments the victim's mother ran for help, asking a neighbor to call police.

We're told several other family members were in the home during the shooting, including a 3 year old. His mother says he's okay.

Police say Sizemore claims the shooting was in self-defense. He has a black eye that family members say is from the argument with Morris.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.

Sizemore declined our request for a jail interview.
