LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials want to make sure everyone is prepared for this Winter storm. Mayor Jim Gray hosted a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

He asked citizens to watch out for their neighbors, the elderly, those with special needs, the homeless, and pets.

The mayor says Streets and Roads crews will have a challenge on their hands. When the temperature drops below 15 degrees, chemicals become less effective. Gray asks drivers to take extra caution on the road.

Police will also be watching for stranded drivers on major roadways.

Waste collection is postponed until Wednesday. The mayor cites the safety of the department and citizens.

Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control will respond to all calls involving animals.
