Lexington murder suspect in court, sends letters to judge

Updated: Wed 7:59 PM, Mar 13, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Suspected murderer Marty Roe got the hearing he asked for. In February, he sent a series of letters to a judge offering background on his case as well as filing motions on his own behalf.

In one letter, he asked to be released from prison so he could find the killer.

Police say Roe gunned down Doctor Martha Post outside her office in 2011.

However, Roe claims it's all a part of a conspiracy against him.

When asked about whether or not his attorneys knew about the letters before they were sent to Judge Ishmael, Shannon Brooks-English, one of Roe's attorneys said she could not comment. Though she did offer some insight into why her client would have sent them.

"I think he's feeling helpless right now and he is fighting for his life. And that's why he's filing these motions."

The two things that came out of a Wednesday hearing are a trial date, and perameters were set for bond if Roe can come up with $79,000 in cash.

In one of the letters, Roe did mention bond reduction, and alleges he should be let out of jail in order to investigate the murder of Dr. Post.

Police say Roe shot Post outside her office, but Roe says investigators are being closed-minded and the real killer is still out there.

During his hearing Wednesday, Roe asked the judge to set parameters for bond, saying he was sure he could come up with the money he needed to be free.

Roe also alleges he should be out of jail, because he's the only one who can tap into underground sources who know more about the killing. The judge urged Roe to send those sources on to police.
