Lexington planning memorial walk in Veterans Park

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Lexington is planning to move its Vietnam Veterans Memorial to Veterans Park, where it will become part of a planned linear walk with other memorials.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Mayor Jim Gray says the park will be a place for citizens to go to remember the contributions of veterans.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is working on plans to develop the new walk.

Veterans Park already has a 1970s Army tank on display, along with flags of the armed forces and a marker honoring Blue Star Mothers. That is women with children in the armed forces.

Gray also said he is naming a Veterans Advisory Council to advise city officials on ways Lexington can honor veterans. They also will keeping leaders informed about veterans' needs.
