Two men hurt after gunfire erupts in Lexington neighborhood

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Gunfire erupted in a Lexington neighborhood early Saturday morning, sending two men to the hospital and scarring homes and cars with bullet holes, according to police.

"There were 20 gunshots going up and I'm screaming for my kids and it was just that violent. You didn't know if your house got hit or if you were even hit," remembered Sonya Poellnitz.

The gunfire shook Corral Street about 3:30 a.m. Investigators tell us two men in their 20s were rushed to the hospital after they were shot in the street.

"Police were out, tape was being put down on our porch," Poellnitz said.

Police say they while they were searching for the shooter, they spotted a man driving a car marked with bullet holes on South Limestone.

Investigators tell us they arrested the driver, he is charged with possessing a gun as a convicted felon.

We're told police are still trying to figure out if he was the man who pulled the trigger on Corral Street.

As the sun came up, neighbors saw how close they came to the bullets that hit many of their cars and homes.

"It could have been in anybody's head anywhere," said Matelene Campbell as she pointed to her SUV’s shattered windows.

"This is awful, I have to pay for this truck. I didn't do this but I have to pay for this," she said.

Neighbors tell us they aren't the only ones paying for the crime. They say it's hard to shield children from the violence and their innocence is high price to pay.

Police tell us they don't believe the men who were shot have life-threatening injuries. We've been told one of them has been released from the hospital.
