LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police didn’t have to look far for a robbery suspect before they found him in the Madison County Detention Center.

Police say they found the man, David James, 46, after he was arrested Monday in Richmond.

Police say they caught him trying to rob a bank.

Police say the attempted robbery happened within 24 hours of the robberies at the Clarion Hotel on Newtown Pike and the Microtel Hotel off Winchester Road in Lexington.

Not only is James facing two first degree robbery charges, he's also charged with failure to maintain insurance, having unregistered plates and drug paraphernalia.

When police arrested him in Richmond they say they found him with a BB gun, written notes and a mask.

Police believe the suspected robber was starting to switch things up because the hotels in Lexington were robbed by a man without a mask.
