LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are searching for a car thief, and they say that recovering that stolen car has led them to a much larger discovery.
Police found that car around 4am on Idaho Avenue, near 7th and Broadway. Officers say it was around 3am, from a home on Queens Way Drive, that the owner called police to report the vehicle missing.
Police say they spotted the SUV on 7th Street and tried to pull it over, that's when they say the driver led police on a short chase around the area, eventually exiting the vehicle and leading them on a foot pursuit.
Police say when he got out of the car, he didn't put it in park, so it kept moving and hit a parked vehicle, causing minor damage.
Police say they set up a perimeter around the area and brought out K-9 units to try to locate the suspect.
Police recovered several other items from inside they vehicle they believe were also stolen. They say although none of them have been reported missing yet, they believe once people start waking up they will notice them gone.
