LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A warning for basketball fans coming to Lexington, beware of scalpers.
Lexington police sent out the alert on Tuesday, two days before Rupp Arena hosts the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Scalping is illegal in Kentucky. A Lexington ordinance makes it illegal to sell tickets or other goods even at face value two hours before or one hour after an event at Rupp within a two block radius of the Lexington Center.
Police tell us they will have officers that will be out enforcing the scalping and sales laws.
Lexington police are also warning people to expect an increase in traffic in the downtown area this week.
In an effort to relieve downtown traffic congestion the police are asking that out-of-town NCAA Fans to use I-75 Exit 115 and access downtown via Newton Pike.
Traffic from the south and east will be directed to use I-75 Exit 113 and access downtown via Broadway.
There will be electronic signage on state owned roadways heading into Lexington to remind visiting fans of this request. When drivers arrive in downtown there will be signs and officers directing drivers to specific parking lots approaches, depending on which way you enter the Rupp Arena area.
