LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - She helped put away some of Lexington's most violent and high profile criminals. Now a former Fayette County prosecutor finds herself on the wrong side of the law.

Lori Boling, 43, resigned last month from the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. WKYT has learned her resignation came just two weeks after she was busted for shoplifting, according to recently filed court papers.

A criminal complaint claims Boling was seen removing a price tag and laser from a pair of shoes before concealing the shoes in her purse at the Reynold's Road Meijer on December 1. The loss prevention detective followed Boling, according to the complaint, through the store to the self-checkout where she allegedly paid for several other items, but not the concealed shoes.

When Boling attempted to leave the store that loss prevention detective stopped her. After questioning her, Boling removed the shoes and also a shirt from her purse that store officials said she didn't pay for. The value of the stolen merchandise added up to $53.98.

Lori Boling began working at the Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney's office in 2003. Where she prosecuted some of the biggest cases in the city. One of those cases, included, the 2011 trial of Glenn Doneghy, who was later convicted in connection with the 2010 death of Lexington Police Officer Bryan Durman.

Her former boss, Fayette Commonwealth Attorney Ray Larson said, he couldn't talk about the allegations, but went on to say, Boling, one of his assistants for nine years, resigned effective December 18th.

When we contacted Boling for comment, she respectfully declined. Her official charge is Theft By Unlawful Taking---a misdemeanor.

She's set to appear in court on Monday, January 14.
