Lexington road crews prepare for wintry weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Leaders with the Lexington department of streets and roads have been out all day assessing road conditions and developing their plan for the coming weather.

Most of the morning only rain fell in Fayette county, but it began switching to snow around the noon hour.

"We don't expect any problems until Thursday night," said Albert Miller, acting director of Streets and Roads. "The streets are wet but road temperatures are high enough that we don't expect any accumulation of snow or ice."

Miller said the city will be bringing an extra crew on at 8 p.m. Thursday "to make sure we've got everything covered."

Lexington police say they worked five non-injury collisions and one injury wreck Thursday morning, but added that is typical for the morning rush.

According to officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, road crews have prepared all across district seven, which includes Fayette County, to begin treating the roads when necessary.
