Lexington school bus involved in serious crash

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - Lexington Police are investigating a serious crash involving a school bus.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Monday afternoon on Todds Road near McFarland Drive.

Police tell us the driver lost control of their car and side-swiped the bus carrying special needs children.

The impact was so severe it knocked the rear axel off the bus.

Five children were on the bus. Police tell us two were taken to the hospital to be checked out. One was taken by ambulance, the other was taken by a parent.

The rest of the students were picked up at the scene by their parents.

Police tell WKYT the bus monitor and the driver of the car were also taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Police do not believe any of the injuries are life threatening.

Lexington police shut down Todds Road in both directions for about an hour until they cleared the scene.

Police do not believe the driver was speeding. They also do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor. The driver of the car will not be cited.

Police say wet roads may have contributed to the crash.
