Lexington store owner, others indicted for welfare fraud

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Fayette County Grand Jury has indicted a Lexington store owner and several others for welfare fraud.

Police arrested Charles Morton, the owner of the Barter House on Loudon Avenue back in January 2013.

Investigators say he would pay 50 cents on the dollar for EBT cards, then had his associates or employees use those cards at various stores around the city.

Morton and seven others were indicted on several charges, including theft and engaging in organized crime.
