Arrest warrants issued for suspect in Lexington shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have obtained arrest warrants for a suspect accused of shooting a woman in front of her daughter on Valley Avenue Sunday night.

Police now have obtained arrest warrants for Frederick C. Morgan.

Officers say the shooting happened around 8:30, Sunday night, when police say a female victim was in a car parked on the street when Morgan pulled up and fired one shot into her stomach.

Police say Morgan is the ex-boyfriend of the woman who was shot.

Police say her 5-year-old daughter was in the backseat, and another man was just also in the car when the shot was fired. Investigators say the victim was taken to UK hospital with non life threatening injuries, and police were waiting to hear if she will need surgery to remove the bullet. The child was not hurt.

"We'd like to hear his side of the story to see what his intent was because there were three people in the vehicle. We don't know right now if he was shooting at the male subject in the driver's seat and just missed and struck his ex-girlfriend or what caused this incident, tonight, to escalate where somebody was shot," explained Lt. Eddie Hart.

Police say Morgan left the scene in a dark colored Jeep or Dodge Durango style vehicle. Police say the victim has a Domestic Violence Order against the suspect, and that he is not supposed to have contact with her, or own a gun.

"Right now we have detectives following up on that information, we're going to try and make contact with him. Family members have spoke to him by phone, so we're hoping to talk to him," said Lt. Hart.

Police say Morgan faces charges of assault second degree, wanton endangerment and an emergency protective order violation.
