LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A big announcement was made Thursday in the Lexington mayor's office.
Linda Gorton, Lexington's vice mayor, says she will not seek re-election next year.
Gorton recently became a grandmother and wants to retire so she can travel, write and spend time with her husband.
She's been part of the Lexington-Fayette Urban City Council for nearly 16 years. She has served under four mayors.
She represented the 4th District for eight years and will complete her second eight years as an at-large member next year.
She's served as vice mayor since 2011.
