Lincoln Co. woman sentenced in husband's murder

LINCOLN CO., Ky. (WKYT) - A Lincoln County judge sentenced Tamara Richie to 15 years in prison for her husband's murder Friday morning.

“She feels horrible about what happened and she is grieving," said attorney Stacy Coontz.

She says Richie is grieving the death of her husband, who she admitted to killing in his sleep.

"If it weren't for mental health issues we wouldn't be here," said Coontz.

She believes those mental health issues led Richie to shoot and kill her husband in their home nearly two years ago. Investigators say Richie kept the body for three days.

Coontz tells WKYT Richie shot her husband while her medication wasn’t effectively treating her mental health issues.

"She has schizoaffective disorder which is a combination of schizophrenia and severe depression. So there is a lot of medication and therapy that she will need," Coontz said.

The Department of Corrections will decide where she will receive her treatment.

Coontz says Richie has already served 506 days in jail and will be eligible for probation after serving 85 percent of her sentence.

"She loves her husband very much and still loves him. She is very traumatized by what happened. It's sad all around. Someone is dead and someone who loves them is responsible," said Coontz.
