JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - People got a chance to share their opinions about a proposed road connecting Nicholasville and Interstate 75. The road would be built in Jessamine and Madison counties, it would join I-75 at the Boonesborough exit, north of Richmond.

A public workshop was held in Jessamine County to allow community members to share ideas, concerns and suggestions about the proposed project. "I had a sister that lives in Berea and I have to go to Lexington to get on I-75," explains Janet Blankeman, a Jessamine County resident."However, where I live is where the strip that they are showing for the road we are right in the middle. Just the thought of a road with semi's that kind of thing you know it's not something you want to think about. A lot of my neighbors are here at the workshop expressing their concerns. I've lived in the same house for over thirty years -- my children grew up in that house. It's hard to think that we have to move because of an road project."

However, there are those that think the idea is a great option. "It adds 45 to an hour to my commute depending on what time of day it is," explains Jessamine County resident Kevin Garrett. "If this proposed plan goes through it would make it easier to get from NIcholasville to the interstate. Right now, we have to go all the way through Lexington or all the way through Stanford. I am definitely for the idea. I understand the sacrifices people would have to make, the project would even go through a part of my development, however it' something that needs to be done. The traffic here is just getting so bad."

Hundreds turned out to discuss the proposed road that would connect US 27 in Jessamine County and I-75 in Madison County.
"I want to emphasis that there is no alternative that has been selected or even looked at," explains Bob Kunley with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. "We're just holding a a public workshop to allow community members to express their opinions. I think people would be shocked to hear how much their opinions impact our decisions."

With nothing set in stone yet, officials tell us they hope this workshop allows those for, against or even undecided to have a better idea of what all this proposed project entails.

Transportation department officials say a decision will not be made until sometime next year.
