Louisville police fatally shoot man

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police say officers fatally shot a man after he fired at them in southwestern Jefferson County.

According to The Courier Journal (http://cjky.it/QrdrJ7 ), the Louisville Metro Police Department says officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, but did not find a suspect.

Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said officers were called back to the area and found a man wielding a handgun.

Police said the man attempted to run and fired a shot at the officers. Up to three officers fired back, striking the man an undisclosed number of times.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, died at University of Louisville Hospital. He was not immediately identified.

Three officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is routine in officer-involved shootings.
