Louisville women's center to honor five

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Louisville shelter for abused women is honoring five longtime Louisville community leaders for their work helping women and girls.

The Center for Women and Families announced the honorees in a news release Wednesday.

The women are Madeline Abramson, wife of Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson; Renee Campbell, president of Wesley House Services; Susan Ely, chief of the domestic violence and sexual assault unit in the county attorney's office for Jefferson County; Tori Murden McClure, president of Spalding University; and Mary Gwen Wheeler, executive director of the 55,000 Degrees project.

The center says the five women have contributed to improve opportunity, education and quality of life for women and girls in the Louisville area.

They will be recognized at the center's 26th Anniversary Celebration of Service & Survival on Feb. 13.
