Maker's Mark lowering proof to keep up with demand

Posted: Mon 7:33 AM, Feb 11, 2013

LORETTO, Ky, (WKYT) - Apparently, there isn't enough Maker's Mark to go around.

The distiller, known for its signature red wax-sealed bottles, has announced it will soon begin watering down its signature drink to help keep up with rising demand. The company made the announcement in a letter sent out to loyal customers.

Based in Marion County, Kentucky, the company says its bourbon is distilled at 45% alcohol by volume, or 90 proof. It will soon be lowered to 42% alcohol by volume, or 84 proof.

Consumers are already complaining about the change through social media. But the world-renowned bourbon maker insists the taste will be the same.
