Wanted poster for John Buckley and John Lee Williams
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man who police say helped futigive John Buckley get away is in court Friday.
On Thursday afternoon, Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt announced at a news conference that 42-year-old John Lee Williams, a former cellmate of John Buckely's had been arrested.
He's accused of helping the convicted rapist and former Army Ranger flee from the Fayette County Courthouse just minutes before his guilty verdict was to be read on July 12th.
The surveillance video WKYT obtained shows Williams on that day inside a Georgetown Walgreens, then outside minutes later on a cell phone.
Authorities say Williams was talking to Buckley's mother, Sandra Merritt.
A warrant filed this week for the arrest of Merritt claims she didn't tell police Buckley took her rental car, because she didn't want him to face additional charges.
Buckley has been on the run ever since.
