PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - A man accused of causing a crash that killed a Pike County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter in Pike County Circuit Court Friday.

David Wayne Childers is charged with murder and being a persistent felony offender.

Police say Childers was speeding when he crossed the center line and hit former deputy sheriff James Thacker's cruiser head on, killing him, in January.

Investigators say they found drug paraphernalia in his SUV.

Childers' recommended sentence is 20 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November 9th.
