Man accused of stabbing dog to death

Updated: Wed 7:22 PM, Oct 03, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police made a gruesome discovery inside a Lexington home.

Police say Kimanita Hale, 21, stabbed a pet dog to death with a six-inch butcher's knife.

Family of Hale tells WKYT the dog was the family pet, a 9-year-old Pomeranian named Jada.

According to Hale's arrest citation, police say it began with an argument between Hale and his mother.

"All I heard was the dog yelping, and he (Hale) came out the door, and walked down that way. And then his parents come out crying and everything saying that he killed the dog," said a neighbor.

When police arrived, they say Hale held them at bay by putting the knife to his own throat and threatened to kill himself.

Police shot Hale with a taser before arresting him.

He's charged with torture of a dog, a Class D felony, and resisting arrest.

Hale will be arraigned in Lexington Wednesday afternoon.
