Man accused of stealing tailgates in Laurel County behind bars

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man police believe stole numerous tailgates in southern Kentucky is now behind bars.

Police in Laurel County recovered them after the suspect tried to sell them to an auto parts store. Now, police are trying to find out who they belong to. The recovered tailgates are inside the sheriff's office now, so rightful owners can claim them.

Detectives have been investigating these thefts for several weeks.

Detectives say they found seven stolen tailgates in North's possession. He's charges with possession of stolen property under 10 thousands dollars. Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to that charge. Now, all that's left is to return the stolen property to its owners.

In order to claim your tailgate, you have to be able to identify any dents or scratches to prove it's yours.

North was sentenced to 360 days in jail. He will spend part of the time under house arrest
