Man arrested after burglary, assault at Lexington apartment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say around 7:00 Sunday morning, some of the people living at Newtown Crossing apartments got a shock.

"A subject who had broken in to an unsecured apartment. He had got caught while in there by a female and her boyfriend. The suspect actually fled," said Lt. Eddie Hart, of the Lexington Division of Police.

That couple called police and once officers showed up, they say more victims came forward.

"Other people were already around looking for this person and when they saw the police, they alerted them, so others had also spotted what was going on," Hart said.

Police arrested Joshua Lassiter not long after. They say he had burglarized three apartments and assaulted someone inside one of them.

"When he came into the apartment, not only was he committing a burglary, but he was committing other acts as well," Hart said.

Lassiter is charged with burglary and sexual abuse.
