MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s a crime that has shocked a neighborhood. Two men now face charges after police say they robbed a woman as she was out for a walk.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has charged 26-year-old Jeremy Adkins and Matthew Raleigh with first degree robbery.
Investigators say they robbed the victim Tuesday morning in the Jeffersonville Community.
Off the narrow, curvy roads that wind around the small community of Jeffersonville sits the only place that Lane Oney has called home for more than a decade.
“If someone needs something we will help each other but we don’t mingle. We keep to ourselves and it’s just quiet,” said Lane Oney.
That is --- until recently.
“This is the first time in 15 years I’ve had anything taken from me here.”
A wooden lighthouse, hand-crafted by her daughter and standing several feet tall, was recently stolen right out of her front yard.
“I’d like to have my lighthouse back, if anyone knows anything bring it back.”
A short time later, yet another crime occurred in the area and this time violence was involved.
“She called me all tore up and crying. My friend Norah Anderson was strong-armed robbed Tuesday morning and beat up. She got her arm broken and her hand.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office initially arrested\ Jeremy Adkins and charged him with first degree robbery.
“He didn’t have to do that to that old lady, he didn’t have to do that.”
Now that Adkins is behind bars, Oney hopes her neighborhood will go back to being quiet and crime-free once more.
“I’m glad they got him in jail. They better keep him in there.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff tells us they're still investigating who is responsible for stealing Lane Oney's lighthouse.
