Man awaiting trial for murders takes own life

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A man awaiting trial for opening fire at a homeowners association meeting, killing two people, has taken his own life from inside his jail cell.

The investigation continues, but investigators said it appears that 56-year-old Mahmoud Hindi took his life Saturday.

Hindi is accused of entering a neighborhood association meeting at the Springdale Community Church in Louisville.

Police say Hindi pulled out a gun and firing the shots that killed David Merritt and Marvin Fisher.

Hindi's death comes just a few weeks after the one year anniversary of the murders of the two men at the sub-division meeting.
